Stop Anxiety!

Stop anxiety in your life and feel better everyday. I did and this is how I did it. The cure is to change your brain's circuitry so that you are a calm, relaxed person. You do this by a number of means. Remember that it takes time and practice.

The following steps will help rid yourself of anxiety:

1) Vow to yourself that you are going to stop anxiety. In essence you are committing to a life changing program. Do it right now. Take a moment and commit to changing your life.

Say to yourself, or out loud "I commit to taking the necessary steps to having a better life. Now and always. I will not make excuses. I will seek a better way." Repeat this phrase as often as necessary. For strong impact say it out loud to yourself in front of a mirror. Do this until you are comfortable with it.

2) Come back to this page everyday and re-read these steps and all the pages on anxiety. Remind yourself whenever the thought comes to you. Re-commit to your vow.

3) Take comfort in the fact that you are not alone. Everyone has suffered from some form of anxiety at some point in their life. Most people cover it up very well. Anxiety is a condition of life. The severity of the anxiety is up to you. You may not understand this right now but read on to learn more ways to stop anxiety.

4) Get help from your health care practitioner. As well, seek out other forms of help. Medication is one form of help. You may want to give it a try. In severe cases it may jump start you in your quest for better health. I tried different types of medication when I finally got the nerve up to ask my doctor. I did have an internal dialogue that kept telling me that it was bad stuff. The reality is that medication can be very helpful. It helped me without a doubt. Today I'm medication free but I'm sure glad it was available. Medication can be your first step in resolving your concerns. Supplements and herbs are another way. Counselling may help you as well.

5) Don't get overwhelmed by all the information. Take it in a bit at a time. Be kind to yourself even when you are in a difficult situation or have experienced anxiety.

6) Start eating good, healthy foods. Here you'll find a list of healthy foods. Remember that garbage in is garbage out. By eating good you will enhance your entire being. Stay away from sugary foods. They will weaken you and cause all sorts of health concerns. Try to get past denying yourself the truth. The truth is that unless you eat healthy and follow all the steps listed here you may continue to experience problems.

7) Start an exercise program. Commit to this on a regular basis. It doesn't have to be overly strenuous. Build up to a level of fitness that you are comfortable with. Exercise will also enhance your entire being. You will feel a lot better for it. I do. Now it's a healthy addictin for me and I love it.

8) Investigate supplements. They may work for you. They also worked for me. I still use different supplements because I want the healthiest brain and body possible.

Signs of Anxiety

9) Examine what causes your anxiety. Generally we are anxious about something in particular. You need to know what is causing your anxiety. In some cases it is obvious. If you have social phobia then you probably are aware of the cause. If you have public speaking phobia you are probably well aware of the cause. In some cases it is more difficult to pinpoint the problem.

Pay attention to what starts your anxious feelings. Become alert to them. Signs of anxiety range from a queasy feeling in the stomach to migraine headaches. It also includes a number of other symptoms such as fear, even intense fear, sweating, dizziness, and many others.

Write down the feelings you get if you are having trouble pinpointing the 'instigators'. Be honest with yourself. Writing down your feelings will help you to narrow down the cause. It will also help you to understand your inner thoughts regarding the anxous situation. You can even use this as fodder to start using your right brain or your 'adult self'.

Attacking Anxiety

10) Once you know the 'instigators' you can get going in attacking your anxiety.

To stop anxiety, it helps to understand how it begins in the brain. Often your brain creates these thoughts as a self protection measure. With practice you can re-train your brain. See fight or flight for more details.

Stop Anxiety

What you need to do is nurture your inner self when it begins to react to a perceived anxiety. It is sometimes described as the 'child' self and the 'adult' self. Your 'child' self is behaving irrationally to a situation. You need to get your more rational 'adult' self taking over when this happens.

Another way to look at it or to stop anxiety is to break it down into left brain and right brain. Your left brain is the chatter box, always telling stories that may not be conducive to the situation you're experiencing. It is only trying to help. Your right brain is the 'connect with others' brain. If you use your right brain and lessen the effects created by the left brain your anxiety will lessen as well. See balanced brain for more details.

Remember to challenge the thoughts that you create when you are in a situation that stirs up anxious feelings. Do this in a nurturing way. Simply tell your 'child' self or your left brain that it need not behave the way it is. You thank it for its input but you are safe and there's no need to overreact to the current situation with any sort of anxiety at all.

11) To stop anxiety practice the above consciously and conscientiously. Don't make excuses. Remember your vow!
