Concussion, Protect Your Brain

Signs of concussion.

Concussion is a head injury. Generally with a temporary loss of brain function. This type of head injury can cause numerous brain related problems. Multiple concussive injuries are serious. They often result in the end of many professional athletes' careers.

Brain function problems as a result may include but are not limited to memory, focusing attention, confusion, inability to concentrate, emotional problems, thought processing, brain fog, possibly even depression and anxiety.

This type of brain injury is usually caused by a direct blow to the head. They're also caused by forces which are not direct blows such as quick acceleration and deacceleration. An example would be whiplash incurred during an automobile accident.

Brain function problems can last for weeks or months. People tend to be more susceptible if a previous injury has occurred.

Signs of Concussion

Symptoms include but are not limited to headache, dizziness, vomiting, nausea, lack of coordination, lightheadedness, and difficulty balancing. Other symptoms may include blurred vision, double vision, or light sensitivity. Tinnitus, a ringing in the ears, may also be a symptom.

How to treat a concussion.

See your doctor immediately if you suspect any sort of head injury. Report all symptoms. Ice the site of the injury to help alleviate swelling. After assesment by a doctor you will need to rest. It takes time to recover. Your doctor may prescribe a pain killer. Take as directed. If your condition worsens seek medical attention.
