The Balanced Brain: The Brain In A State Of Balance

You can have a balanced brain. That's if your not already there. All human brains, including yours and mine, are divided into two halves. You have two minds. One emananting from the left brain, one emananting from the right brain. Your two brains communicate, transfer information, in order to perceive life or form your consciousness as one brain and one mind.

(Note: Surgeons have cut the communication path between the two brains and the individuals maintained function, but not without certain ramifications.)

The brain that is more dominate tends to control or overpower the other side. If you are right brain dominate then you have tendencies to be more intuitive. If you are left brain dominate then you have tendencies to be more analytical. Keep in mind that different researchers use different terminologies when describing the characteristics of each brain.

If you exhibit too much of either brain's characteristics then you may experience troubles in your life. Analytical left brained people tend to be less social, more judging, but good with numbers, etc. Intuitive right brained people tend to be more social, more instinctive, but sometimes more detrimentally unrealistic, etc.

A nice compromise is a balanced brain. Understanding that your brain actually has these different characteristics helps you to be more balanced. Rather than be in conflict with the thoughts from each side of your mind, or each of your minds, you can teach yourself to use the appropriate information when required. This will help to eliminate unnecessary chatter.

One difficult concern with extreme right brained people is that you may have 'head in the clouds' syndrome, or that you may be extremely unrealistic. You may see life as one big party, or believe your life is controlled by the supernatural, etc. You may depend too much on psychics and seers, etc. As a result you may miss out on dire situations in life that require an immediate or near-immediate left brain generated decision.

It's like the old joke of the ship wrecked sailor who is clinging to some floating debris in the sea. A boat comes along and he refuses help because "God will save me", he says. A helicoptor comes along and again he refuses help because "God will save me", after a couple more chances to be saved he drowns. When he gets to heaven he asks God why he let him die. God replies well I sent you a number of life saving opportunities but you refused them all. This is an example of extreme right brain thinking.

One concern with extreme left brained people are that they may often be too analytical. Often you may not connect well with people. You may wrongly ridicule more artsy right brained people. As a result of too much left brained generated thought for example, these people may not connect well with others and have a lonely life. Or they may be obsessed with making sure everything is too perfect and not relaxing and enjoying life.

There are other characteristics of being extreme but you probably get the idea. Again, if you understand the characteristics of each mind then you can take steps to have a balanced brain. You will discover an amazing aspect of yourself.

For some people brain chatter is incessant. It can cause all sorts of confusion. Basically this is the left brain trying to communicate information. You need to appreciate the left brain's input but tell it that the information is not required. Often the information it is trying to communicate is nonsense.

The right brain generally sees the overall picture. It is the "lets connect to others" brain. It pretty much appreciates the present moment -living in the now.

Like all things, learning to use both brains more or less equally will take some time. If you tend to be left brain dominate stop and admire the beauty of a landscape or art. Think of the artist that created the work. Think of how you may employ your right brain more.

If you are right brained stop taking certain left brain creations for granted. For example, you may admire some nice achitecture, but think of the dizzying amount of number crunching required to erect that building. Appreciate the left brain input. If you tend to get nervous in crowds or meeting new people switch to your right brain and connect.

Achieving a balanced brain will take some practice but it works. There is a certain novelty to all this. Enjoy it! As you develop a balanced brain you will notice subtle but definite changes in your life.
