Brain and Body Antioxidants

Antioxidants help us to ward off disease, improve brain function, and strengthen our immune system. They help us to slow the ageing process. In short, they make us feel better. They are real substances that do an amazing job in your brain and body.

Definition of anti-oxidant

They are agents or compounds that prevent the oxidation of our cells. Examples are vitamins, minerals and other supplements like alpha lipoic acid, lutein and melatonin.

Research shows that anti-oxidant rich foods make us healthy. This applies to both brain and body. Supplements high in antioxidants also assist us in good health.

Poor memory, brain fog, and other problems can be a result of insufficient healthy foods and supplements in our diets. This is why balance is the key to enhancing our health. Lifestyle changes really can make a difference.

A free radical is a molecule that exists in your body that destroys healthy cells including brain cells. This is how premature ageing, and disease are accelerated.

Point to remember: Free radicals are not entirely bad. They serve us by destroying invaders (germs & viruses) that would do us harm. The problem occurs with imbalance. Most of the time we don't eat the proper amount of good foods to keep the balance.

Blueberry Anti-oxidant

Eat fruit like berries, especially blue berries. They are excellent. They have been rated the most dense antioxdant food available. Other healthy foods include green, leafy vegetables, like spinach, broccoli, cabbage and kale. Cabbage and brussel sprouts are considered one of the best anti-cancerous vegetables.

Secret: When cabbage is over cooked the sulphur like compunds break down and begin to taste and smell bad. Cabbage tastes better when not over cooked. It's best to use a steamer.

Anti-oxidant Drink

Drinks that are low in sugar are excellent. Look for unsweetened fruit drinks made from blueberries, pomegranates, cherries, and other fruits. Vegetable drinks are great as well. Green tea, black tea, and even coffee have great antioxdant properties. Sometimes pure fruit juices are too strong. I always cut my juice with filtered water. Tastes great this way! Remember to give yourself time to adapt to these good changes. Be sure to practice good health habits consistently and you will feel better for it.
